"Ola i ka wai" is a Hawaiian phrase that translates to "water is life" or "water is living" in English. The Hawaiian culture understands that water is a precious and essential element of life, and this phrase reflects the deep connection that Hawaiians have with water and their understanding of its vital role in sustaining life.

In January 2022, the Department of the Navy announced that there had been a major fuel spill on the island of Oahu, specifically at the Red Hill Underground Fuel Storage Facility. Thousands of gallons of jet fuel was accidentally released into the groundwater and contaminated the drinking water of many service members and residents stationed and living on Oahu.

This phrase, "Ola i ka wai," serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting and caring for our water resources, not only in Hawaii but also globally, as access to clean water is crucial for the well-being of all living beings on Earth. It's a beautiful expression that reflects the interconnectedness of humans and nature.
